Several months ago, I got a message from an old high school friend, inviting me to a reunion of sorts with our high school choral director. Mrs. Franklin was BELOVED, had challenged and drawn great things from all of us, and was also a great supporter and cheerleader for us all. By my senior year the choir room was the center of my day- my class roster that year had English, typing, and 6 other periods in the music department. The happy memories I have of being in her universe are too, too many to count. She was such a big part of my story. But a few years after I left high school I lost touch with her, then heard that she’d left her job in some noble protest, and eventually I stopped hearing about her. She never joined Facebook, and I had no way (that I knew of) to contact her. So, it had been around… 35 years since we’d been in touch, and almost 40 since I’d seen her, when the invitation came through.
